Why we should not go to swim at all? (2)

For those who miss the first part:

Why we should not go to swim at all? (1)

Let's continue our journey. Those who born in January might know our next sea monster pretty well. With hooves and horns, Capricorn can be nominated as one of the weirdest sea creatures because it is a goat with a tail of a fish, which doesn't quite make sense even in the mythological context. Capricorn is the tenth astrological sign in the zodiac, originating from the constellation Capricornus. But make no mistake, this thing is a badass: it has no conclusive origin and it is the only one of its kind. Plus, Capricorn is the most serious and the most solid and the most stable of all zodiacal types. It is also by far one of the most ancient sea monsters among all. Its picture can be found in Babylonian art, and people said it is the Sumerian god Enki's symbols, goat and fish, combined.

Why we should not go to swim at all? (1)

Personally, I hate swimming. I just can't stand the feeling of being vulnerable whenever I jump into the water. Sure going to the beach is nice, and swimming in the pool with loads of friends is pretty fun. What I hate the most about swimming is the fact that it reminds me of the swimming classes I had in school when I was really young. I hate everything about it; the fact that the school swimsuit was always too tight, that I had to get naked in front of my friends in shower room, and that I had to tolerate the P.E instructor bee-yatches from hell.

But stories about me struggling with swimming lessons shall be told in other place and time. What I want to focus here is the story of water and all the creatures related to it. I read much enough to realize that almost every culture has a story about sea monsters and creatures living in the water. If you still have no idea what I'm babbling about, i will give you a hint: Hydra, Kraken, Naga, Jormungandr, Leviathan.......ring any bells?

What happens to a 100-year-old umbrella? - Japan

Since it's raining all day long today,I've decided that I'm going to write about Karakasa 「唐傘」or a form of umbrella spirit in Japanese folk legend. Also known as Kasa-obake, karakasa is a type of Tsukumogami which refers to supernatural beings originated from 100 years old household items. Sounds cute right? Not to mention the creepiness that comes along. Tsukumogaki can be anything; lanterns, jars, clocks, or even worn-out sandals, but that's the stories of other times. And no, by saying umbrella I don't mean a cute vintage umbrella with lace and polka-dot pattern or something like that. I actually mean this:

Japanese style paper umbrella is, indeed, what I'm talking about.
Now imagine it as a ghost...what will it look like?

Greetings to all visitors

This blog is mainly about folklore, legends, culture and all the weird things people tend to do in any particular parts of the world. Just as people collect stamps, I collect this kind of stuffs instead. Stories and such. I grow up in a place where people believe singing during night time will lure the tiger to your household, so yeah I can't really say it's a new obsession for me or anything. Plus, I really love world literature and how it connect to human society like, how it reflects their existence and the way they see the world. So, enjoy and don't forget to share some interesting believe/rituals/myths or anything from your culture or experience as you stop by, ok? :)
